Do Scorpions Come Through Drains?

Do Scorpions Come Through Drains?

It's possible for a scorpion to come up through a drain, but it's not the common route. Most bark scorpions get into Arizona homes through exterior gaps, weep screeds, spaces around plumbing and conduit, garage thresholds, and worn weatherstripping, not up through the plumbing. Drains can be a path when a scorpion follows moisture, but it's the exception, not the rule.

How scorpions actually get in

Bark scorpions squeeze through openings as thin as 1/16 inch and climb walls, so their main entry points are:

  • Weep screeds and stucco gaps near the foundation
  • Gaps around pipe and conduit penetrations
  • Garage door thresholds and gaps
  • Worn weatherstripping under exterior doors
  • Where they climb, even higher openings, since they scale vertical surfaces

What to do

If you're worried about drains, you can keep them covered when not in use and make sure P-traps hold water, which discourages anything coming up. But the bigger win is sealing the exterior entry points and treating the harborage outside, which is where the vast majority of scorpions come from.

Redline seals and treats those zones across the East Valley, with scorpions included in our standard plan. New customers get $50–$100 off their first service. Call or text 480-960-2010.

FAQ

Should I cover my drains to keep scorpions out?

It doesn't hurt, but it addresses a minor route. Sealing exterior gaps and treating outside harborage matters far more.

Why do I find scorpions in my bathroom?

Bathrooms offer moisture, and scorpions follow water and the insects drawn to it, but they usually arrive through wall and floor gaps, not the drain itself.
