Why Am I Seeing Scorpions Inside My House?

If you're finding bark scorpions inside, it's not bad luck and your home isn't dirty, it's a sign of scorpion pressure outside plus gaps that let them in. Bark scorpions live in the block walls, rock beds, and desert around East Valley homes, and they only need a 1/16-inch opening, about the width of a credit card, to get inside.
The common reasons scorpions get in
- Entry points. Weep screeds, gaps around plumbing, garage thresholds, and worn weatherstripping are open doors.
- They climb. Bark scorpions climb walls and can come in higher up, even through ceilings, they're the one Arizona scorpion that climbs vertical surfaces.
- Food inside. If other insects are getting in, scorpions follow their food.
- Heat and water. During extreme heat or monsoon, they move toward the cooler, more humid indoors.
- New construction nearby. Grading for new homes displaces scorpions, raising pressure on every home around it.
What to do about it
Treating only inside doesn't solve it, because the source is outside. The fix is an exterior barrier on the block walls and harborage, sealing the entry points, and reducing the crickets and insects scorpions feed on, maintained year-round. That combination is what gets most homeowners to stop finding them indoors.

FAQ
Does seeing one scorpion mean there are more?
Usually it means there's pressure around your home, not necessarily an infestation inside. But because they're hard to spot, one sighting is a good reason to get the exterior treated.
Are scorpions worse at night?
Yes, bark scorpions are nocturnal, so you're more likely to encounter them after dark.
