Scorpion Treatment Around Children and Pets: Precautions
Honest answers for parents and pet owners: what to do before, during and after a scorpion treatment, and what to do tonight.
If you have a baby, young kids or pets, a scorpion in the house is frightening, and so is the idea of having pesticide applied around them. Both worries are reasonable. This page gives straight answers about each.
First: if someone is stung
Call the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center at 1-800-222-1222. It is free and answered 24 hours a day. Call 911 for trouble breathing, uncontrolled movements, or a sting to a baby or small child who seems very unwell. For a pet, call your veterinarian. Redline is a pest control company and cannot give medical advice.
What we will and will not tell you
We will not tell you that any pesticide is harmless. Products are applied according to their labels, and the label sets the precautions. What we will do is tell you plainly what is being applied, where, and how long to keep children and pets away from treated areas.
Before the visit
- Tell us you have children or pets, and which rooms they use most.
- Pick up toys, pet bowls and bedding from the floor and the patio.
- Tell us about fish tanks, birds, reptiles or outdoor pets.
- Plan where kids and pets will be while the technician works.
During the visit
Keep children and pets away from the areas being treated. Most scorpion work is on the outside of the home. Inside, we treat only the areas where activity has been seen. Ask the technician anything. Every Redline technician is background-checked and is expected to explain what they are doing and why.
After the visit
Follow the re-entry time the technician gives you. If you have a question later, call or text 480-960-2010.
What to do tonight, before anyone comes
- Keep beds, cribs and pet beds a few inches away from the wall, with bedding off the floor.
- Keep shoes, towels and toys off the floor, and shake them out before use.
- Check a child's bed before bedtime if you have seen scorpions indoors.
- Do not spray store-bought products around cribs, toys, food areas or pet areas.
